Bohemian Rhapsody - the current story of my life. Sort of.

Is this the real life?
Is this reality?
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality.

Open your eyes,
Look up to the skies and see,
I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy,
Because I'm easy come, easy go,
Little high, little low,
Any way the wind blows doesn't really matter to me, to me.

First of all, you're welcome.  A little Freddie Mercury never hurt anybody. Now on to the real reason I am blasting Queen today.

See, we {Craig and I} have this dream.  We want to sell most of our belongings and go.  Anywhere.  We want to travel the world.  Admittedly, I am a little more crazy for it than he is, but that is the joy of being married to me.  Right, honey?  Honey?

Ahem, as I was saying...we have big plans to see the world.  Lately, I have heard a lot of talk of Iceland and we started seeing this as a destination for a family vacation.  You see, it is GORGEOUS and unsoiled by humans.  Sure, people live there and people visit, but the land is clean and bright and open and beautifully natural.  So, we began researching.  What are the must-see locations?  How do we get there?  Where should we stay?  What should we pack?  How much money will we need to make this all happen? When can I upgrade my camera to a Canon 5D Mark III and get a wide angle lens?  That may or may not have just been a one-sided conversation with myself.  Even Canon got in on the excitement. When we asked him if he wanted to go to Iceland to see icebergs and volcanoes, he emphatically replied 'yes!'.  Granted, the only thing he knows about that stuff is that volcanoes have "hot, hot lava" and he thinks that's cool. Thanks Jake and the Neverland Pirates.  Regardless, we were all in and we were getting excited.

See?  I told you it was breathtaking.  One view of Southern Iceland, taken by the very talented photographer, Jure Kravanja.  Check out his work.  Seriously, beautiful stuff.

And then reality kicked us right in the gut.  You see, we have this little thing I like to call A CRAPPY CAR.  Honda vehicles are supposed to be amazing.  They are supposed to live forever and be able to withstand the apocalypse - like cockroaches and Twinkies.  Of course, I own this one which means it is bucking the system.  It is not following the rules and I am getting angry with it.  Very angry. My rotors have gone bad three times and now my transmission needs to be rebuilt.  You know what that means?  No Iceland. Instead of wandering aimlessly through a beautiful country, we are draining our savings for this stupid hunk of junk.  Are you happy now, Honda?  You have ruined my chances of dressing like a snow bunny in July and eating chocolates on an iceberg.  Thank you for that.  *Grumble, grumble, grumble.*  I am ready to sell this bad boy and move on to bigger and better things, like petting wild horses or being hired by National Geographic because of my award-winning photos of Snæfellsjökull National Park {bless you!}.

So until the lottery comes through for us {seriously, what's a girl gotta do around here for a cool $10 mil?!}, we will just continue to have our dreams crushed by reality.  Day in, day out.  I, I, I, I...can feel them sucking the juice out of my eyeball.  Suck, suck, suck, SUCK...  {1,000,000 cool, Icelandic points for anyone that gets that quote}.

Too late, my time has come,
Sent shivers down my spine,
Body's aching all the time.
Goodbye, Iceland everybody, I've got to go.
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth.

*Sniff* Wait for us, Iceland.  We will get there one day.

  1. Awwww.... doesn't reality SUCK?! (and no, I don't get 1000000 iceland point, cuz I don't get it...) Iceland does look beautiful - keep planning though, maybe one day it'll happen, if not now then the future... maybe even the far future... there's something about imagining sitting in a rocking chair one the iceberg eating chocolate and knitting!

    1. Ha! No worries. The quote is from Joe vs the Volcano. We will definitely get there one day...just not as soon as we hoped. :)
