10 Things To Know About Me

We interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to bring you this important announcement:

I am jumping on the bandwagon in the blog world and doing a questionnaire.  Because I think they are fun.  Sorry if you don't enjoy.  Please return tomorrow to see more travel posts.

I don't have any blogger friends (I don't think) to tag in this post, so I will just do it for me.  And since no blog is complete without a photo (or twelve), I will add some along as I go.

Also, I realize that the thing to do is answer 6 of the 10 questions asked, but I am going against the grain. Rebel, what?!

Oh, and one more thing. I did not write these questions.  I copied them from Chelsea.  Go check out her blog.  It's awesome.  Just sayin'.

1.  When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Anyone that knows me know that all I wanted to be my whole life was a ballerina.  I began taking classes at two years old and loved ballet the most (even when most little girls loved tap or tumbling for obvious reasons).  I continued through high school where I competed in ballet, tap, jazz, and lyrical with my amazing dance school.  I even studied in New York for a summer.  I won a scholarship for dance to my university and was also asked to be a counselor for the American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive there for three years.  I endured quite a few injuries and surgeries and became too curvy (read: I grew a chest) for a ballerina so after college I began teaching.  I continued teaching and dancing until I found out I was pregnant with my son.  That means I danced for 26 years.  I don't regret my decision to leave teaching, as it has provided me much more time with my family, but I still long to dance professionally.  A girl can still dream, right?

Don't mind the misplaced thumbs.  Apparently I thought that was a thing back then.  I know better now. (Photo courtesy of Denis Palmer of Palmer Studio in Mobile, AL)

2.  If you had an endless supply of one food, what would you get?
Cheese.  Hands down.  I could live off of that stuff.  I put it on everything (yes, even apple pie), but I would be completely content with eating it solo too.  (I would eat it in a box.  I would eat it with a fox.  I would eat it on a chair.  I would eat it anywhere.*)  Bring. It. On.

*Shout out to Dr. Seuss.  Waddup.

Ok, yes this picture is sweet.  This is the day we came home from the hospital after Canon was born.  Don't focus on that sweet baby face, though.  Take a look at the table.  My mother came to stay with us and help out.  She offered to make me anything that I wanted to eat.  What did I choose?  Steak? Salmon? No.  I chose a CHEESE sandwich.  That right there?  That is proof that I would die without cheese.

3.  If you could hop on a plane right now, where would you go and why?
Europe.  Specifically France.  I have such a love affair with that country.  I love the language, the food, the wine, the history, the beautiful countryside, and the cities.  Just put me in a small farmhouse and leave me be.  That is my dream.

Yes, please.  Image taken from http://www.telescopeshop.co.uk

4.  What is your biggest pet peeve?
I abhor someone smacking their food.  It literally makes me cringe.  Also, I hate to hear someone burp.  It makes me want to vomit.

For the love of all things decent, close your mouth when you chew.  Please.

5.  If you had to describe yourself in three worlds, what would they be?
Stubborn, quick-witted, and sarcastic.  (I can actually feel my husband's nodding head right now.)  That makes me sound like a lovely person, doesn't it?  I swear I am nice too.

6.  What is your biggest fear?
Heights.  I hate heights.  Watching someone swing high or climbing a ladder makes my knees go weak.  If I was to be honest though, I would have to say losing my child.  Isn't that every parent's worst fear?

7.  Would you rather be rich and stressed? Or poor and happy?
Though, of course, I would love to be rich, it is worthless if you are stressed.  I choose to be poor and happy, but only because rich and happy wasn't an option.  It is worth noting, though, that if I were rich I could afford to get myself some anxiety pills and big girl panties.  Hmmm.

Proof that we can be poor and happy.  That is what this pictures says to me.

8.  If money and university major didn't matter, what job would you want?
In my dream world, where I am also performing Swan Lake on stage, someone would pay me to travel the world.  I would take photos and write about my experiences.  Sounds like a dream, right? Well, it is.

Round and round and round it goes.  Where it stops, no one knows.

9.  Why did you start blogging?  Do you still do it for the same reasons?
Honestly, I started blogging because I wanted a place to share.  Anything and everything.  I have tried blogging about DIY projects (didn't work because I don't do enough and I didn't enjoy that blogging) and I started a photography blog but didn't keep it up because I didn't really have any direction.  Now I blog mostly about travel and my experiences in different places, foreign and domestic.  It is what I love and I find that easier to write about.  So, yes I still do it for the same reasons only now I have a direction and a purpose to it.

10.  What makes you the happiest?
My family makes me happier than I could have ever imagined.  Put my husband, son, and me in a new location.  Let me have my camera and we will explore to our hearts content.  Sounds like heaven.

Still one of my favorite pictures of us.  Taken in 2010 in Naples, FL.

So, is anyone still with me after all of this?  If so, thank you.  Also, feel free to answer these questions (or find others that are floating around out there).  Please.  I am nosy.

  1. Ah I love this, getting to know bloggers a little more! I especially love that you still dream of being a ballerina... the dancing world is so hard to leave behind, right? I did ballet too, and taught for 4 years, only stopped 3 months ago because we left the country and haven't settled here yet. Can't wait to get back to it... if not teaching then at least dancing!!! <3

    1. It really is. I hope you can get back to it soon then! I would just love to go in and take classes somewhere that I don't know anyone. Focus is a beautiful thing. :)
